More is better, right?

It’s a common belief that “more of a good thing is better,” but in reality, overindulgence can be detrimental to our health.

We know that overeating can overtax our system, leading to brain fog, weight gain, and a lack of vitality. When we consume more food than our bodies can handle, we often find ourselves malnourished because our bodies become less efficient at extracting nutrients from the excess. More calories don’t necessarily translate to more energy.

The concept of "more is better" applies to breathing in much the same way. Just as food nourishes our body only when consumed in appropriate amounts, so does air. When we over-breathe, our cells receive less oxygen, creating a paradox where too much air can lead to less effective oxygenation, similar to the way overeating can diminish nutrient absorption.

In our modern lives, it's common to overeat and over-breathe. These habits strain our respiratory system, weaken our immune response, disrupt digestion and sleep, and ultimately harm our overall well-being. We’ve been led to believe that more oxygen is always beneficial, but this isn't the case. What we need is not more, but just the right amount to truly nourish ourselves.

To experience the benefits of proper breathing and enhance your health, consider joining an introductory breath practice class. You'll learn how to breathe effectively—focusing on quality rather than quantity—to truly nourish both your body and mind.
